Week Through the Lens #8 Monaco Auction Weekend

Week Through the Lens #8 Monaco Auction Weekend

Another busy week has passed. Started the week off in snowy St.Moritz, finished the week off in sunny Monaco. Had to get a lot of work done prior to Monaco auction weekend as the auction season has officially kick started again for 2025 spring with the Monaco Legend Group auction. Monaco auction is always my favourite auction to come because the crowd is different to other places, and has a different vibe around the room when compared to other auction houses. The warm sunny weather of Monaco may also have an effect on this as well, but the people at Monaco Legend group are always very welcoming and genuine.

I was excited to see all the watches this weekend and went over the catalogue numerous times prior to coming. There were some pieces I had my eyes on, hence my reason for being here. I knew not all lots will go according to the plan but overall, quite happy with the weekend.

My dear friend Edoardo killing it on the floor

One of my favourite pieces I did not manage to get my hands on was the Audemars Piguet cal.2499, which is the first automatic movement made by Audemars piguet, and cherry on top, Türler signed dial. I tried, but oh well.

In my dream, I wanted to get the 3355 Breguet. People who talked with me know how much I love the 80s-90s breguet, and this 3355 is a piece of art. What a pity I did not manage to bring him home with me. (scandalous)

What is too many diamonds? (Belong to a friend, no way that is my watch)

It’s always nice to meet up with some familiar faces from before, friends I have not seen for some time while away from the army. To say the truth, some of my friends got old while I was away for 2 years, you know who you are. But also it’s nice to build some new connections as well, and introduce myself to new faces as I am sure I still am the new face to a lot of people who have been in the industry for a long time and coming to auctions for decades.

Auction weekends are exciting, but tiring as well. Weekend fueled by an average of 4 espresso per day, socialising, going around seeing watches, being out the entire day takes a lot of energy. Still tried to keep my routine of morning runs and managed to enjoy some beautiful scenery of the South of France. Overall, another great week, and congratulations to Monaco Legend Group for another successful auction. I will be taking a couple days to recharge from this weekend and put my foot on a peddle to get going again. Set small goals, knocked them off, time to set more.
