About Gobugi
Gobugi was founded with a dream of providing truthful stories and quality watches to the world. Our vision of the company is to become a meaningful “Business” to society, not just about trading. Our goal is to create a platform bigger than watches itself as we aim to look further and bigger in different areas. With our main philosophy being inspired by chapter 23 of “Doctrine of the Mean”, we value the smallest of things; one small but sincere action will eventually grow into something bigger and meaningful, which will lead to growth. Sincerity in our work, and sincerity in human relationships is the first and utmost value for Gobugi.

Story behind the name
Gobugi sounds like a weird name for non-Korean speaking audience, but in Korean it literally means “turtle”. Why turtle then? Well, turtles have symbolised many aspects with the philosophy I try to live by. Aesop’s “The Turtle and The Hare” symbolises longevity and perseverance. Ancient Korea also symbolises turtles with longevity and fundamentals. So the turtle had a place in my head but I wanted to use my native language word in my company. Born as a South Korean, but growing up mostly in Switzerland, I spent more than half of my life as a “foreigner”. I wanted to express my pride for my home country, and the word “Gobugi” can be pronounced decently well by many different languages. So here it is, Gobugi: pronounced as “Go-Bu-Gee”.
