Through the Lens #17 Product of Environment

Through the Lens #17 Product of Environment

Another week, another dump. Realised these past couple of weeks that ain’t nobody working in Europe in the month of August. Automated email replies saying they are on holidays, things that can be done within days are taking weeks. Not complaining, just observing. On the other hand in Korea, people are grinding regardless of the time period. This rather workaholic culture should’ve been part of the reason for Korea's steep economic growth. Being back in Korea, it’s good to spend some time with family, old friends, as well as reconnecting and connecting with new people in the watch community. Taking this summer time to travel a little less, getting non-watch related things done, and taking advantage of people being off from work.

Korea is not the biggest or diverse watch country, but I am hoping to be a tiny little influence to change that in the future. So I enjoy connecting with like minded people in Korea, and I have managed to see some incredibly nice watches; pieces I did not expect to see in Korea, like this Aristo chronograph with fat lume plots where it's almost part of the dial design. What a watch.

Really realising that the environment is a scary thing. My habits, culture, and daily routine shift a little when I compare my life in Europe and Korea. At 25, I now have spent more time in Europe than Korea, especially my predominant years. However, in the end, I am Korean by blood with my family based in Korea. So I feel like I am coexisting within 2 drastically different cultures and my daily routine, thoughts and schedule does get influenced depending on where I am. I guess it is normal since we all are a product of our environment, but it’s a self realisation I have been having recently.

Overall, another productive week. Set small goals, knocked them off, time to set more.
