Through the Lens #16: Truth about the 6263

Through the Lens #16: Truth about the 6263

Another week, another dump. Middle of summer, overheated weather, sweaty palms, but this journey of watch collecting is never ending. Continuous meet ups, checking some beautiful watches, researching about different watches, it’s definitely keeping me busy throughout summer.

Since it’s just unbearably hot in the last couple of weeks, I couldn’t wear anything with straps. I don’t want my straps to be ruined by my sweaty wrist. So I have been wearing my 6263 a lot these days. Oyster case, screw down crown, this daytona is very much summer-proof. But a watch worth sacrificing straps to be soaked by sweat is this Calatrava ref.565 in Stainless Steel. Borgel Case, long signature, and the condition is...  People around me will know I have a weak spot for stainless steel Calatravas. It's the ultimate low maintenance watch. I guarantee you will not be robbed wearing a steel Calatrava in London.

Something I have to admit; and owners of 6263/6265 might be afraid to say it, but I have to admit myself only after owning it, is that these manual Daytonas are not worth the market price. As much as I don't want to admit, I keep on having this thought in my head. Will people buy at the current market price? Absolutely, but I just don’t see how the watch is worth over 60k CHF plus. Decent production number, stainless steel case, Valjoux movement. I don't know... Please do not misunderstand this from the fact that manual Daytonas are absolutely gorgeous. The 37mm case is the perfect size, as well as this black dial, big red Daytona written, oh I am loving this. But at this price, there are so many other nice watches to choose from and I can’t quite wrap my head around the value of this piece.

Also taking this “off-season” to spend some time with family members, as I don’t get nearly as much time as I would like to, and as we all get older, it is harder to meet up often so I am cherishing this time I have.

Another good week off the books. Set small goals, knocked them off, time to set more.
