Another May and another auction season has arrived, where collectors, dealers, and auction houses gather in one place and compete on who sleeps the least, drinks the most, and of course shows off the most beautiful watches.
One of my favourite lots from last weekend were these 2 absolutely beautiful white metal Breguets Phillips had for the auction. People can see by now that I have a weak spot for 80s-90s Breguets, and this White gold 3237 onyx dial and Platinum 3050; my goodness. Sadly none of them came home with me. Hopefully in the future.
On a personal note, I was thrilled to be back in Geneva since it is a place where I called home for 2 years of my life during my masters, and a place where I learned the most about watches. Throughout the weekend, I had a lot of flashbacks of my time there. But those reminiscences did not last long, and the chaos took over. Checking out different watches, meeting different collectors and dealers, as well as meeting some old friends, it was a lot for such a short period of time especially for my rather introverted head.
Had a little stroll around the old town to reminisce the old days and to see Akrivia and dream about it, a watch I don’t think I will own for a long long time, but would love to see in person at some point in the future.
I did not manage to take a lot of watch pictures although I saw so many of them. I try not to ask too much if I can take pictures of their watches just in case. But what I did manage to capture is this beautiful Patek Calatrava ref.3429, double signed Hausmann with a beautiful yellow gold bracelet from my friend Tobias at Vintage Times. If anybody is interested in this piece, shoot him a message. What a watch. Also, my latest acquisition in my personal collection: this beautiful Heuer Carrera 7753 in a new old stock condition (no longer new old stock now) that I got from my friend Ilya at Benjamin Marcello.
After weekends like this, a lot of thoughts linger in my head. The interactions I had with people, self reflection, and thoughts moving forward. It was one extremely tiring weekend, but definitely a fulfilling one, and hope to learn from this experience to move forward. Set small goals, knocked them off, time to set more.
