Rolex Turn-O-Graph re.6309 "Thunderbird"
The Rolex Turn-O-Graph Ref. 6309 is one of the earliest and most distinctive executions of Rolex’s pioneering rotating bezel tool watch, introduced in the early 1950s. First unveiled in 1953 with the reference 6202, the Turn-O-Graph was Rolex’s very first serially produced wristwatch to feature a rotating bezel, establishing the foundation for later professional icons such as the Submariner and the GMT-Master. This specific turn o graph here is cased entirely in solid 18K yellow gold, represents the most luxurious interpretation of this historic model, which was also used in the U.S Air Force Demonstration Squadron, the "Thunderbird" (ref.6609). Measuring in at 36 mm, the Oyster case combines sporting utility with the richness of polished gold, while the fluted rotating bezel provides both a practical timing function and a bold stylistic contrast. The engine behind the watch is the Calibre A260, Rolex’s robust self-winding movement of the era, renowned for reliability and precision. The 6309 in yellow gold has got that rarity as well as historical importance, often considered a transitional piece bridging Rolex’s classic Oyster Perpetuals and its later professional sports watches.
