Rolex Chronograph ref.2508 'Pink on Pink'
The Rolex Chronograph Ref. 2508 is one of the most elegant and historically significant pre-Oyster chronographs produced by Rolex in the 1930s and 1940s that speaks completely different design language to that of modern Rolex chronographs: Daytona. With its generously sized 37 mm case—considered oversized for its era—the 2508 stands out among vintage Rolex chronographs for its balanced proportions, restrained design, and technical excellence. This specific 2508 is executed entirely in 18K pink gold which is an exceedingly rare combination alongside a round profile with thin bezel and downturned lugs, resulting in a refined yet substantial presence on the wrist. The 2508 is powered by the manually wound Valjoux-based calibre, modified and finished to Rolex’s specifications, offering reliable chronograph functionality with two registers—constant seconds and a 30-minute counter—symmetrically balanced at 9 and 3 o’clock. Unlike later Oyster-cased chronographs, the 2508 features rectangular pushers and a snap-back case, underscoring its place in the lineage of early Rolex chronographs before the advent of the waterproof Oyster chronograph series.
