Through the Lens #20 Back to Hong Kong

Through the Lens #20 Back to Hong Kong

Another week full of watches. Had to fly to Hong Kong again for the watch fair as well as auction preview. Second time in Hong Kong in the last month or so, and I have to admit, there is a reason why HK is the ultimate watch hub in Asia. The amount of watches you see around, it's ridiculous. Oh plus, there is basically no rules to restrict any deals and trades. Let's not hide the fact that the main reason is no VAT, no tax, hence the reason why all auction houses are based there.

Had the pleasure of wearing Minhoon's Carved Piece Prototype for this trip. Minhoon was kind enough to lend me this for a week or two, which I milked the opportunity. After owning for brief stint, I am so looking forward to mine in the near future.

Watch fairs happen monthly in HK, but this September one is always the biggest one, making collectors and dealers all around the world move their butts over to HK. Saw a lot of familiar faces, old and new friends that I often see in Europe, but it was weird seeing them in Asia. Feels like 2 universes colliding into 1 (Marvel reference).

Coming back from Hong Kong, I hand delivered this absolutely beautiful Breguet 3617 to my good collector friend in Korea. This Breguet 3617 has so much value for what the current market price is. Perpetual Calendar Chronograph from one of the most prestigious watch brands, with a fraction of the price of a Patek 3970. A lot of watch for the money. But I would still choose the 3970 if price was not a factor. One day.

Overall another great week of work. Set small goals, knocked them off, time to set more.
